The written examination for the post of JKSSB Sub-Inspector in J&K Police shall comprise of 100 objective type, multiple choice questions. Each question shall carry 2 marks. There will be negative marking of 0.5 marks for each wrong answer.

Note: The questions in Parts A, B, and D will be of a level suitable for the essential qualification, i.e., Graduation, while the questions in Parts C, E, and F will be of the 10th-standard level.

General Intelligence & Reasoning:

This component will include questions on analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, spatial orientation, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning and figural classification, arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic reasoning, etc.

The topics covered are Semantic Analogy, Symbolic/Number Analogy, Figural Analogy, Semantic Classification, Symbolic/Number Classification, Figural Classification, Semantic Series, Number Series, Figural Series, Problem Solving, Word Building, Coding and De-coding, Numerical Operations, Symbolic Operations, Trends, Space Orientation, Space Visualization, Venn Diagrams, Drawing Inferences, Punched Hole/Pattern Folding and Unfolding, Figural Pattern Folding and Completion, Indexing, Address Matching, Date and City Matching, Classification of Centre Codes/Roll Numbers, Small and Capital Letters/Numbers, Embedded Figures, Critical Thinking, Emotional Intelligence, and Social Intelligence.

General Awareness:

Questions in this component will assess the candidates’ general awareness of their surroundings and their ability to apply this knowledge to society. The questions will also evaluate awareness of current events and everyday observations, including their scientific aspects, as expected from an educated individual. The test will further cover topics related to History, Culture, Geography, Economics, General Policy (with reference to India and specifically J&K), Sports, Science, Scientific Research, People in News, and Current Affairs.

Quantitative Aptitude:

The questions will be designed to assess the candidate’s ability to use numbers accurately and demonstrate strong number sense. The scope of the test will include computation of whole numbers, decimals, fractions, and relationships between numbers; percentage; ratio and proportion; square roots; averages; interest; profit and loss; discount; partnership business; mixture and alligation; time and distance; and time and work.

English Comprehension:

This section will cover vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, and their correct usage. It will include topics such as Spot the Error, Fill in the Blanks, Synonyms/Homonyms, Antonyms, Spellings/Detecting Mis-spelt Words, Idioms and Phrases, One-word Substitution, Improvement of Sentences, Active/Passive Voice, Direct/Indirect Narration, Shuffling of Sentence Parts, Shuffling of Sentences in a Passage, Cloze Passage, and Comprehension Passage.

For the comprehension part, three or more paragraphs will be provided, followed by questions based on them. At least one paragraph will be simple, taken from a book or a story, while the remaining two will relate to current affairs, reports, or editorials.

Mathematical Abilities:

Algebra: Basic algebraic identities of school-level algebra, elementary surds (simple problems), and graphs of linear equations.
Geometry: Familiarity with elementary geometric figures and facts; triangles and their various centres; congruence and similarity of triangles; circles and their properties; tangents and chords; and common geometrical concepts related to two or more circles.
Mensuration: Triangle, quadrilaterals, regular polygons, circle, right prism, right circular cone, right circular cylinder, sphere, hemispheres, rectangular parallelepiped, and regular right pyramid with triangular or square base.
Trigonometry: Trigonometry, trigonometric ratios, complementary angles, and height and distance problems (simple ones only).
Statistics and Probability: Use of tables and graphs such as histograms, frequency polygons, bar diagrams, and pie charts; measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode), standard deviation, and calculation of simple probabilities.

Computer Proficiency:

Computer Basics: Organization of a computer, Central Processing Unit (CPU), input/output devices, computer memory, memory organization, backup devices, PORTs, Windows Explorer, and keyboard shortcuts.
Software: Windows Operating System, including basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as MS Word, MS Excel, and PowerPoint.
Working with Internet and E-mails: Web browsing and searching, downloading and uploading, managing an e-mail account, and e-banking.
Basics of Networking and Cyber Security: Networking devices and protocols, threats to network and information security (such as hacking, viruses, worms, Trojans, etc.), and preventive measures.
